Follow up after surgery

Call us after surgery if your child has:

  • Fever higher than 101 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Severe nausea or repeated vomiting.

  • Inability to urinate within 6-8 hours after being home.

  • Severe pain not relieved by pain medicine or your child is not consolable.

  • Excessive bleeding or drainage from the surgery site.

  • Cannot be awakened easily or remains very sleepy.

  • Signs of infection including: swelling, redness, thick drainage, foul smelling drainage or increased pain at the surgical site.

Follow up phone call:

You will receive a phone call from us within 1-2 business days after your child's surgery. This will give you an opportunity to ask any questions and will let us know how your child is doing.

Follow up visit:

  • For the majority of outpatient procedures, you do not need to have an in person follow up visit scheduled. We found out over the years that most of the time everything goes well and the parents take time off work and get their kids out of school or day care to have a 2 minute visit.

  • However, if you have any questions or you think the process of healing and recovery is not going in the right direction, we will be more than happy to see your child in the office at any time. Just call us and schedule an appointment.

  • For more advanced outpatient procedures or surgeries that require a hospital stay, we always schedule a follow up visit for you in 10-15 days after the procedure. Sometimes some blood work or X rays are required prior to the visit. We will arrange these for you before the visit.

If you have any questions or concerns at any time, please call or email us and we will be more than happy to see you and your child in person.
